No house. No job. 14 BABIES! Yikes!
It has been a few weeks now since the world was shocked with the news of Nayda Suleman who had eight children within a 5 minute span. That in itself is shocking but our real shock came when we learned she already had six children at home! Well, at home but not “her” house, her parent’s house! Six kids ranging from age 2 to age 7! What in the world! Ok, I am not here today to talk bad about the woman but let’s run down just a few things. I won’t call them facts; I will just call them a strong possibility of factual information. According to news stories I have read:
• She is only 33 years old
• She is unemployed
• She is articulate with a bachelor’s degree, preparing to work on her master’s
• She lives with her parents
• Her mother helps take care of the children
*sidebar: her mother filed for bankruptcy last year for liabilities of $981,371
• Her mother, the grandmother, gave an interview slamming her daughter’s decision, calling her unconscionable, and also gave a tour of the cramped, messy home
• All 14 children do have the same biological father who had expressed a desire to get to know the first six children but now doesn’t know what to say about 14
• Her reasoning for having so many children is she is an only child and has always dreamed of having a large family
• She received $167,000 from worker’s compensation claims and kept it a secret
• She has launched a website for donations
• She is being compared to Angelina Jolie because #1. Some reports say she has undergone plastic surgery to look like her and #2. Both have large families
• Although she already had six children, she found a doctor who agreed to do in vitro, implanting six embryos
Here’s the thing, anything in excess can be too much (except money) because, at some point, something will be unattended and not given the attention it deserves. And is the attention we are talking about with this mother, attention for the children or attention for the mother? I am going to refer back to the question Ann Curry from The Today Show asked: “to what degree is this too much about you and not enough about them?”
I have only hit a few highlights of this story. There are so many aspects and angles to this overwhelming event, I just can’t and won’t list them all; plus you have heard them. This woman has been ridiculed, made fun of, the brunt of so many jokes on late night TV, and on top of it all, she has received death threats! I think much of this is extreme. Technically she hasn’t broken the law! Maybe a moral law in some people’s mind, but we cannot disgrace her for doing the most common and beautiful thing and that is bringing a child/children into the world. But with this turn of events, there are many questions being asked.
Here are my concerns and what I am anxious to hear you talk about: should we judge her for having so many children? As simple society and as tax payers, is it really any of our business? How will this affect future in vitro fertilization? And my biggest concerns are: at what point is one more child too many and will she be able to give the love, care, attention, and affection to each one of the 14 children? Who will suffer?
According to doctors, one or more of these eight children will have some sort of challenge whether it be physical or mental or both! I think we would all be surprised if we didn’t see at least emotional challenges and issues somewhere in that brother and sister pack! It is really something to shake your head about. I am still perplexed every time I hear some new addition to the saga. Personally, I think it is wrong. But what do you think? Holla back!
I don’t fault Nayda for wanting to have children. It’s mostly every little girl’s dream, at some point in their life, to be a mother. However, I think there is something wrong with any single parent that would want to add eight more children to the six you already have. Knowing that she is a single mother and the help she needed with the six children she had, Nayda should have been more considerate to those helping her.
I think she’s just working the system to get as much as she can. You can bet she’s getting paid for every picture and interview of her and those babies whether on TV or in print. The fact that she’s educated and is articulate works to her advantage right now, but I honestly believe she’ll soon be fighting to be able to keep those kids. As for the whole Angelina thing, if it’s true, it’s all the more reason to believe she’s unstable. The whole thing is just crazy!!!
I personally feel that Nayda has some mental challenges that will affect how all these 14 children will be raised. I agree with Sup that she will probably have to fight to keep all the children. Why oh why would she want to try to have more children when she already had 6? I can understand being an only child and wanting to have more than one …but come on..single and 14??? MADNESS!!!
Eight at one time! I have never given birth to children but from everything that I know even one is not easy sometimes, let alone eight. How can you make eight babies happy at one time. How do you change that many diapers at one time or feed with that many bottles. Yes she may have a degree but how is that going to help when all the babies are crying at the same time. I believe she is planning to rely on John Q Public or else why would she start a Website. So people could write in and donate. People get all kinds of endorsements, advertising, money and other free things. She knew that something of this magnitude was bound to draw attention and money. Lets be reasonable, her mother was conplaining about taking care of 6 children and all of them did not require her attention at once. I question her mental ability for even doing this. Tell me how are you going to get 8 car seats in the car, or bus, what ever the case may be, at one time. Does she plan to stay in the house until they are the age where they can walk wherever they go? There are a lot more things to take into consideration, which I don’t think she did. Mother is ready to book right now with the first 6. Do you want to hve this family over for dinner? You have to wait until summer so you can have a picnic. My opinion is, NO I DO NOT THINK IT IS RIGHT. Until she can get back on her feet, she will be using TAX dollars and right now I am tired of Tax money going to take care of families that will not try to take care of themselves. My opinion is hazards of my job. I work in a Poor Relief Office. I see this everyday, just not so many at one time. AS for her looking like Angelina, I don’t like the real Angelina so I know I would not like her.

That right there is too many Churren. At some point these kids have to fall into a zone where they feel like they are not getting enough attention. Enough though the have 13 people to play with, I think that some kids have to have tons of attention from their parents and not just friends and siblings. She must make her salary in one, large lump sum a year… tax return! Hmmm.. that could be worth it.
Oh by the way I forgot to say that her Atty. that waa giving her Pro Bono help has quit her because she was getting death threats. I also found out on the today show that her mother is 6 months behind in her house payment and the mother and 8 babies may not have a home to go to when they are released from the hospital. Yes I think she is a Tuesday person. The Atty, said that the mother herself has received death threats. I believe all of America knows this person was not dealing with a full deck to have 6 babies.
