Integrity Blogging or Fantasy Blogging? Does It Matter?

So here is today’s question of the day.

In today’s world of blogging, how do you feel about using an alter ego when commenting and writing and sharing your thoughts and opinions online? As many of us are Christians, is creating a character and writing fiction, sprinkled with our real personalities, when blogging, considered wrong/a lie?  Should we always maintain truth in representing ourselves regardless of the platform?

I understand people’s need to rile up a conversation and be the center of attention and think of themselves as the drawing force behind why people come to a site, to see what new, off the wall, crazy thing they have to say today.  Of course that is the owner of a giant ego and someone with a need to run away from who they are and be somebody else, but is it alright?

Is it just a fantasy and game to play or is that an integrity-less blogger? I have recently been talking to a great guy with a profession in human behavior.  His definition of integrity is: doing the right thing when nobody is watching.   I think that is a brilliant defintion!  I myself could go to any site and masquerade as somebody else and say the craziest most bizarre stuff (although I am convinced, your real personality will eventually come out, regardless of how hard you try to portray something or someone else) and nobody would ever know who I am, but I have to ask myself, is that pleasing to God?  He always knows, right? Or do you think that is alright with Him and He looks at it as an outlet for those who need it? What do you all think about this?

Let me put it simply, is it alright to create an alias in order to fabricate stories, get the audience riled up, say things we don’t mean …or should we be representing our Christian persona in everything we do, at all times??? Holla back!

  1. You have been preaching all over the place. First the stump now this. I feel like you should represent. If you act like something you are not pretty soon you will get all mixed up and may start to believe the other you. I know a man that has told soooooo many lies that I relly believe he believes them. He can not rightly divide the truth. Now even when it slaps him in the face. (know anybody like that?)

When someone comments on blogs or anywhere for that matter, they normally have something to hide or protect. I would say 90% of the time it is done because the persona they have assumed is so over the top.

It is funny you mentioned integrity. I just came from an organization that preaches integrity – that integrity is partially responsible for our safety. But integrity isn’t always practiced. Unfortunately, we could be talking about the Air Force, Church, the library or anywhere else and people’s own agendas often come into play. As human beings we have our own desires and will compromise some level of integrity to get what we want.

I know people who sacrificed their bodies to get what they want and it is sad. If people will do things like that, commenting using an alter ego is nothing.

Yea. I think you are right. It is hard to maintain integrity at all times. There are areas in my life where I myself struggle with it. As my friend said, it is doing the right thing when nobody is looking! There are things we could all do and nobody (but God) would ever know!

I just don’t know how I feel about blogging at times because I think when people aren’t themselves, it is a no hold barred free for all! That can get offensive.

I’d better stick with blogging. I don’t think my body would go for much! :o )

I’ll be very brief and to the point with my response. I believe it speaks volumes to the very character of a person when he or she chooses whether to be themselves and honest vs. a “made up” version of themselves and be dishonest. I personally don’t even enjoy reading comments from someone who would rather hide then be truthful and honest. I TOTALLY agree with the person that said we have to do the right things, at ALL times I believe, even when we think no one’s looking ’cause DUH….somebody IS WATCHING from above!!!!
