“Pec-tacular” “Buff Bam”! Translation: Obama Shirtless!!!
Here are the first two paragraphs of an article talking about President Obama on the cover of a magazine without a shirt.
In the throes of an economic crisis and two wars, does the nation want more headlines about a “Pec-tacular” “Buff Bam”?
President Obama appears shirtless in a bathing suit on the cover of May issue of The Washingtonian magazine. The magazine’s excuse? The pec pic illustrates the #2 reason (out of 26) to love living in the nation’s capital: “Our New Neighbor is Hot.” (story continued. scroll down)

Lol. That’s enough of that story. There are many snippets and articles out there about this issue. Matter of fact the above article calls it a bathing suit, while another calls it gym shorts, nevertheless they all got the crux of it straight, he didn’t have on a shirt! Initially the first story I saw called the expose of his bare upper body disrespectful. I just wanna know what you think. Is it disrespectful for our president of our United States to pose on the cover of a magazine shirtless?
Let me say, as much as I love, love, love Obama, I have mixed emotions on this one. I thought about what my mom used to say: with certain positions in life come responsibilities. She would say, once a woman has a baby, she is in a different category in life; she can’t do some of the same things she used to do, she can’t go to some of the same places she used to go, she can’t wear some of the things she used to wear, etc. Do you agree with that? Does being elected the President of the United States dictate staying fully clothed for the cameras at all times?
For the record, as mixed as my emotions are, a big part of me thinks this is ridiculous! It is a nice picture. It is done with taste. He looks good/hot/buff. What’s the problem??? But he is the President! Should we think of President Barack Obama the same way we think of Tyrese Gibson (cutie patootie!)? Help me out here. What do you think? Holla back!
Oooooook!!!!!!
Kathy,
I am also with you on the mixed emotions. But he did take this picture prior to taking Presidency right? It Is all good as long as it is in good taste, right?
Can’t the man walk down the beach with his shirt off if he wants to? He don’t have on Speedos ya know, then we got an issue. If this was a picture of Bush with a gray hairy belly or Clinton with a (never mind on that one) Any Hoo, would it matter?
I don’t think anyone would care really. To the public it’s just about who it is with the shirt off. Come on, Obama makes love to the Camera and his words are almost like chocolate & honey just talking about Taxes being cut and better Health Care.
Who sets the rules of how a Real President should be anyway!?? We haven’t had a REAL President until now! He’s already slap five to a London Police Guard, rolling in the Wizards Basketball Game and Michelle goes around hugging and loving on the Queen, melting her icey exterior, now she rolling with an IPOD and ya know them people was not suppose to be touched. (I like the fact that they did this by the way)
I believe that depending on Who it is and How it is done and the intent behind the action that makes the difference. And his intent was to enjoy the beach,I am sure. That is the appropiate attire for the Beach right?
As long as he don’t strip his shirt off while making a speech at the White House, he’s fine.
This photo doesn’t look like he posed for it. Are there photos that he actually posed for in his trunks? Posing makes me think he knew the pics were being taken and therefore is giving his permission. Random shots are different. I feel the media should show him alittle more respect. He has the right to some privacy like vacationing and down time with his family. Being married and being president and being a dad dictates that his life is not his own but come on people I really don’t care what he likes to eat nor do I need nor want to know if he wears “boxers or briefs.” Some want to know. They want to know everything they can possibly know about him. There’s no wrong in wanting to know just handle the info as adults and be sensitive to his family. That’s asking alot in this day and time because of different views and values. I chose a different approach. I read two of his books. I wanted to know about him and how to pray for him and his administration. Now he doesn’t have anything to be ashamed of in this photo!! The handiwork of God is a lovely thing!!! Far to few women are interested in the kind of class, beauty and poise your mom had. Let the record show, that I still champion “those women.” REAL WOMEN!! with dresses, heels, hats, hankies and scruples.
That’s very similar to the leader of some other country that was recently photographed at the beach shirtless. His body was in about the same condition as Obama’s. It’s not that they’re not good to look at, but in their positions it’s not good PR. They should be able to have private enjoyment like this, but I don’t believe it should be publicized on the front of a magazine. When he took on the job he was aware that his life would never be the same and some of his normal pre-presidency behavior would not be acceptable for someone in that position. The responsibility of being the leader of the greatest nation in the free world comes with definite guidelines (briefings) of what he can and can not do. He may be easy on the eyes, but in my opinion he should never be seen like that in print nor in public if he can avoid it. He has more to prove as the first black president and those that don’t like him may use it as reason to critique him more.
Monique,
I hear ya, it may not be good PR for him to be seen like this in the future, but thank goodness he was in shape!! Can you imagine if he was out of shape?!?! They would have taken that picture around the block and back, just because of him having so much to prove. By the way Leah how was his book anyway, how would you rate it from 1 to 10?
I read Dreams From My Father first. It was an easy read, didn’t want to put it down. I’d rate it anywhere between 8-10. He tells about his life up to his marriage to Michelle. The Audacity Of Hope reads like a political science textbook. Parts of it were boring to me. I had to push through because he’s a “detail” person and when it comes to explaining his position on a political issue he’s real wordy. I like that quality it’s just that some issues drew an absolute blank with me and I wasn’t able to follow as well. I’d rate it anywhere from 4-6. Together, the two give you an indepth look at both his personal and political convictions.
Leah thanks for that description of the books. I think I will order Dreams From My Father.
