Have The Preachers Been Seducing The Flock? by Larry W. Robinson

Posted by Kathy Curry | Christianity 101 | Thursday 28 May 2009 7:45 am

Today I am reposting comments from Larry W. Robinson’s Facebook page. My Pastor, Bishop John Fonzer, shared this with me and encouraged me to share this with my kleverkathy readers. Honestly, it didn’t take much convincing as I, a PK and church goer all my life, have heard every single one of these statements, and have experienced each and every one of the thoughts and emotions regarding the hyped up, sparkling promises preachers make to their eager audiences that Larry W. Robinson speaks about. I’m sure this will spark controversy as we all come to revelation and faith different ways and at different times in our walk. Sometimes popcorn and pink shoelace dreams are all that gets us through the hard times and valleys, but when reality of God, His methods and fulfillment of His promises sinks in, maybe we will all jump on the Larry W. Robinson bandwagon and require more of ourselves and less of God! (don’t take that the wrong way. Read on and you’ll understand what I mean)

Has this Preacher been “Seducing the Flock”? By Larry W. Robinson
Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 9:46am
Ok, is it just me or are we hearing the same old sermons with different titles. Recently, and reluctantly, I went to a revival and for 5 nights I felt as though I’d heard the same sermon, but with different speakers and titles. And like clockwork people danced and shouted at these same old phrases:

“Your breakthrough is coming”

“You are next in line”

“Deliverance is on the way”

“You are going to the next level”

“Your blessing is on the way”

“Your money is coming”

“Your miracle is on the way”

“God is about to bring you out”

“Your delay is not a denial”

“God is getting ready to turn it around”

“We are getting ready to take back everything the devil stole from us”

Now don’t get me wrong, I love good preaching just like the next person, but my question is WHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly WHEN will God do all that? I have been to literally thousands of conferences, crusades, revivals and breakthrough services; and truthfully, I felt as if they were all the same.

Now is it me, or hasn’t God already DONE what He said He was going to do? Could it be that WE are holding back our own progress? Could it be that WE have been in the wilderness because of our own disobedience, poor planning, and not being a good manager of the gifts, talents and resources that God has given us?

Most recently I was invited to a breakthrough service, and I declined the invitation. When the person inviting me wanted to know why, I simply said, “I am ALREADY blessed! And if you really want to know the truth God has already blessed YOU! Now the question is what are YOU going to do with the blessing?”

But hey, these are just my thoughts. What do you think?

Striving to please an Audience of ONE,

Larry W. Robinson

PS. I am not saying that “every preacher” is doing this. I am just stating my experiences. And of course this is my face book page, so I thought I had the freedom to express myself. LOL. Thank you for your feed back. And remember you are ALREADY blessed, now walk it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think about this?  We’d LOVE to hear how you react to being told over and over your blessings are around the corner and no matter which way you go, life continues status quo.  You ask yourself, was I on the wrong street to begin with or are MY blessing avoiding me for a reason?  Holla Back!

A Praying Spirit Throughout The Day…

Posted by Kathy Curry | We Are Family | Tuesday 26 May 2009 7:55 am

Today I’m asking God for a praying spirit throughout the day.  I should everyday but especially today…

Rarely will you see me post prayer lists on kleverkathy.com. Not because I don’t believe in the power of prayer, I do! I have witnessed results from the power over and over again, firsthand! I don’t post them just because I think prayer is usually personal to the person praying, and although I see a name on a prayer list, because I don’t know them, it doesn’t stick with me to be diligent throughout their deliverance. But I do pray and I will pray, even for those I don’t know. However… today I am posting this request for one person specifically, my coworker Carol Castro.

Carol is from Guam. Her father became ill some time before Thanksgiving. He asked her to come and visit him. She tried to coordinate her visit with Thanksgiving. She already had schedule time off for Thanksgiving. She would be spending extra time in Guam to visit with her ill father. She planned to leave on Thanksgiving Day. He died a couple of days before. She went home and buried her father. While she was there, her mother became ill. She got better and Carol came back with hopes her mother would fully recover. Her mother passed right after the New Year. She went home to bury her mother. While she was there, her Aunt died. She stayed a little longer for her funeral. Carol and I talked about deaths in threes and basically touched and agreed that this was it for her and her family. They had suffered enough!

Carol is in Guam now. She went home to Guam last week for her brother’s wedding. Carol was due back today. We got word this morning her brother (we don’t know if it is the one that was getting married) was fishing and his line got caught in the rocks and he went in the water to unhook/fix it and somehow he drown! Oh Lord! What more?!

As I thought about this today and began thinking on the goodness of Jesus (still yet!) and thought on the saying (since it isn’t really a scripture per se), God won’t put more on us than we can bear, I realized, sometimes He does. But I believe He does it just so we will let Him bear it and make us rely totally and completely on Him! Unfortunately, at times, we go to God as a last resort instead of first choice! God should always be plan A! Actually, plan A, B, C all the way down to ZZ! So often He isn’t. Anyway…. I’ve digressed.

Bottom line, regardless, He is Good!

My heart and thoughts and prayers go out to Carol! She is a believer and I know she knows how good God is in the midst of this storm, her previous storms, and her future storms! But it is hard. Losing family member after family member takes a toll and is a lot to handle. Please keep Carol Castro and her family in your prayers!

The floor is open for any other prayer requests you have that you may want to share with us. Please feel free at any time to express those at kleverkathy.com, but especially today, share those with us as we ask God for that continuing praying spirit throughout the day. Holla back!

He’s Back!!! Michael Vick Released!

Posted by Kathy Curry | Question of the Day | Wednesday 20 May 2009 9:09 am

I don’t know about you but I am happy he is out! Here is what ESPN news had to say about Michael Vick and his early morning release.

Michael Vick left a Kansas federal prison Wednesday for home confinement in Virginia, the latest step on a journey that he hopes will lead to his return to the NFL.

Prison Bureau officials confirmed to ESPN’s Kelly Naqi that Vick was released from the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kan., around 5 a.m.
Larry Woodward, a member of Vick’s legal team, told The Associated Press that Vick is happy to be starting this part of the process.

The Daily Press of Newport News, Va., which first reported Vick’s release, said according to sources at the scene, Vick left the prison before dawn, using an alternate entrance to evade cameras and reporters who had staked out the building ahead of his expected release this week.

Vick is due to return to his Hampton, Va., home and serve the remainder of his federal sentence on house arrest. He spent the past 19 months in prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting ring.

Vick, once the NFL’s highest-paid player, is expected to take a construction job at $10 an hour while he serves the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. He will be handed a new set of rules when he begins serving three years of probation after his expected July 20 release from federal custody.

Vick will be required to report to probation within 72 hours of his return to Hampton, Va., and will be supervised out of the Norfolk probation office.

Vick’s agent said Tuesday that the quarterback “will place football on the back burner” during his immediate home confinement and that there are no meetings scheduled with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss reinstatement for the 2009 season.

“Michael’s looking forward to reacquainting himself with his family, his fiancée, Kiafa, his children and his mom,” Joel Segal, Vick’s agent, said. “When he gets home, that’s his priority, along with reinserting himself into society and being a positive influence in his community. This is going to be a special time for him, just being around family.”

Goodell has said he would wait until the end of Vick’s sentence to consider reinstatement. He has said Vick will have to persuade him and the public that he is genuinely sorry for his crime, that he has been changed by his experience and that he is committed to leading a different life.

Are you like Goodell, do you think Michael Vick should have to jump through hoops to get back the life he once knew? Here’s my thing, I could see him having to “persuade him and the public that he is genuinely sorry for his crime, that he has been changed by his experience and that he is committed to leading a different life” if he got off scot free but why does he have to do all of that and he served time, paid the price for his crime and is willing to work a $10.00 an hour job in the meantime??? At what point does the humiliation end and a second chance at life begin? Who is Goodell or any of us to demand such a thing of an entertainer? He is not President of the United States, or Mother Teresa’s counterpart, he is a sports entertainer!!!

How do you feel? Should Michael Vick be reinstated, picked up and the pause button released? After his sentence is complete, should he go back to doing what he does best and giving testosterone holders all over the world the biggest form of entertainment known to “males”? Personally, I think so! He was fighting dogs not murdering people or dealing drugs! He was wrong but he did what he was ordered to do and now should be allowed to pick his life back up and do his thang! What do you think? Holla Back!

Where Are My Wedding Pictures!!!

Posted by Kathy Curry | What Would You Do? | Monday 18 May 2009 10:07 am

I need your advice on this What Would You Do question.

I got married July 14, 2007, almost two years ago, Praise the Lord. I hired a photography based on two things. Number one, he grew up with my brother-in-law and was his friend and my brother-in-law was going to use him for his own daughter’s wedding. (that wedding didn’t happen but still my brother-in-law had planned to use him) The second reason was because he is a Christian and I wanted to support him and sow into his ministry by hiring him. The cost was $1500.00. Let me spell that out, fifteen hundred dollars! That is fifteen one hundred dollar bills! Whew! So I had to pay half up front – $750.00 – and the other half was due when he was done.

I really wanted him to be at my wedding rehearsal taking pictures. For $1500.00 surely that wasn’t too much to ask right? In the hustle and bustle, I didn’t realize until after the rehearsal (we had so much fun at my rehearsal!) that he didn’t show. I started to panic because he told me he would be there. Ok, but since he wasn’t there I knew he would come through on everything else. On my wedding day he was to be with me from 8:00am until the end of the reception. Wedding morning I went back into panic mode when I didn’t hear from him. Finally he called and said he was there. But…I never laid eyes on him until he arrived at the church at 12 noon. I am the bride!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD!!! He missed all the things I did that morning. IE – Smiling. Getting my hair done. Smiling. Getting my nails and toes done. Smiling. Gathering up all my stuff in preparation to leave for the church. Smiling. Floating on air with butterflies in my belly. Oh well… it was 12 noon, he was there. Only lost 4 hours of pictures of the beginning of my big day…

He did take several pictures but he didn’t do the video recording. My brother-in-law ran the video camera although I had requested that from my photographer. He wanted to charge me some astronomical amount on top of the fifteen one hundred dollar bills I was already paying him! Uh…no! It was his suggestion for my brother-in-law to be the videographer. (I say this with utter glee) At one point during my receiving line I noticed my brother-in-law singing a duet with my cousin, which meant, there was no video camera rolling! I needed someone to bring me a program to see if there had been a misprint because I knew I hadn’t hired my brother-in-law to sing, as I really thought his job was VIDEOGRAPHER! But in efforts to stay graceful I smiled and continued my job, hugging folk that honored me with their presence at my wedding! :o )

Shortly after noticing my brother-in-law singing with no video camera in his hand, again, I nonchalantly looked around and to my chagrin, I see the most appalling thing; my PAID photographer was on the drums accompanying my brother-in-law singing his duet! WHAT IN THE WORLD!!! This meant no video camera and no regular camera! Let’s stop here and review the situation: I had already dropped $750.00, he didn’t show up at my wedding rehearsal, he missed the first four hours of my big day and now, instead of snapping me with all my well wishers hugging me and my groom, he was playing the drums for my non-video recording brother-in-law!!! Pray church! I feel a pew about to come out of place!

I am still not to the crux of my What Would You Do question.

Today it is May 18th, exactly 57 days before my two years anniversary and (drum roll please….) I have received not nary a one photo from my: brother-in-law friend, saved and loves the Lord, late arriving, drum playing photographer! Not one! Yes, you heard me right; I have not gotten my July 14, 2007 wedding pictures. Holla!

Here’s what I’ve done. I have tried to be nice phone call after phone call, voice message after voice message and email after email. 9 times out of 10, on those voice messages, just to reiterate, I leave my cell number, my husband’s cell number, my work number, my husband’s work number and our home number! The times he did answer, at the end of the conversation filled with promises, as if looking business-y he would ask for our phone numbers for the umpteenth time, I guess to impress me. Didn’t work! Bad business is bad business and so unimpressive!

Eventually, he stopped answering my phone calls. Then in early March I called from my co-worker’s cell in efforts to throw him off with the strange area code and phone number. He answered! He actually admitted to doing this to two other couples, but he finally got theirs done. Mine was the only one he hadn’t completed and I was the one that had been waiting the longest. In that conversation he promised to have my pictures to me by March 31st. He rattled off my address, as if to reconfirm, although he has had my new address for months!

March 31 came and went and about mid-April he called and said he had made real good progress. Ok, seriously, that is not what I want to hear! And what is real good progress? My 2 ½ year old grandson might have been able to figure this out and make real good progress 21 months after the fact!

So now I am thru!!!! Three weeks ago I called him from my phone, of course he didn’t answer. I left a message saying I just wanted my money back. Forget the pictures, I have enough non-professional, but good pictures that family and friends took. I just want my money immediately or I would have no choice but to prosecute! Yes I did! And I hung up feeling nearly vindicated! I knew things would start moving now! Lol. I have heard nothing. Absolutely nothing!

Call me lazy but I really don’t want to do the whole small claims court thing. I just want what is due me! Really what I want is all my pictures and all my money back. Here’s the thing, if I do have to end up taking him to small claims court, I WILL also ask for monies for my pains and sufferings! (I know a “s” doesn’t belong on the end of those words, but 21 months = PAINS and SUFFERINGS!)

To my question:  what should I do? Continue to wait? Call the Better Business Bureau? Make my brother-in-law put a fire under him? Call the courts and see what my options are? I don’t know. You tell me, what should I do? What would you do? Help me! Holla back!

Let’s Sail! Costs and Temperature Update.

Posted by Kathy Curry | Chit Chat | Friday 15 May 2009 12:10 pm

Hi All. To answer a question I’ve recieved, these are per person prices. Let me point out, none of the prices I have given include airfare from the depature city. That is an additional cost.  Trip #1 and trip #4, the two most expensive trips, will have costlier plane tickets than the others.

Also, the time I have planned for our trip is Fall with Fall temperatures in Greece. Currently the trip with the most votes is Greece and IT WILL BE COLD at that time. Our options are to still go with the cool temperatures (I know we will probably loose a few people if we go during cold temperatures), move the date to summer and nicer temperatures or pick another trip. I just want us to go, be together and have fun! Any decision is fine with me!

Bearing all that in mind, especially those of you who have already voted, come back and tell me if you want to keep your vote as is, or change it. I am giving the voting process until June 8th and then we will make the decision.

Holla back!

Let’s Sail! Here Are The Itineraries!

Posted by Kathy Curry | Special Event | Tuesday 12 May 2009 9:25 am

Here they are!!! I have five exciting itineraries for your consideration! All of these itineraries are trips scheduled for September or October 2010. Once we choose the itinerary, I will give you the date/s that corresponds with that particular trip. If there is more than one date, we will then vote on the date.

I hope you like the trips I have chosen. I tried to give a variety: (2) Caribbean, Spain, Alaska and Greece. I know we have some seasoned cruisers that will be a part of the kleverkathy couples cruise. For you I put in, what I would consider, the more ritzy ones – Italy, Greece, Alaska. For those of you who have never cruised, might I recommend the “get your feet wet”, “make you love cruises” Caribbean itineraries? To be honest, I threw the one in with Belize because I have been there and would like to return but… I have been on the other Caribbean cruise and it was simply marvelous! But I am not going to vote! It is up to you!

Please cast your vote in the next few days at kleverkathy.com; however, if you are a non-blogger, first of all, why? I’d love to have you be a part of kleverkathy.com, but if you insist on not blogging, just drop me your vote via email or text or an actual phone call. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask! Once I have tallied all the votes, I will give you the results! Isn’t this exciting?

Get ready for fun! Bon Voyage! Holla Back!

Mom… You Mean The World To Me!

Posted by Kathy Curry | Special Event | Friday 8 May 2009 9:46 am

Happy Mother’s Day to each and every mother! What an awesome and overwhelming responsibility God has given us! Mothering is so much more than giving birth, 2 am feedings, discipline, care giving, etc. For many, mothering ends up being the crux of our existence and the reason we are here! I love being a mother and loved my mother.

If I could sum her up with one sentence I would say: the classiest, most honorable female that epitomized “ladyness”! Since my mother’s passing, I think I have become more aware of other women. I have watched those come after her who, no doubt, consider themselves ladies but can’t quite seem to pull it off or get it right and unfortunately couldn’t buy class if it was offered at discount prices! That wasn’t nice was it? :o ) But you get my drift right? To me, my mom was the bomb!

I have never seen anyone carry the title in the same manner my mother did. She was every inch lady, grace, style and Godliness all rolled into one! And to top it off she loved me and she liked me! I wasn’t just her daughter, I was her friend! If I can bare a slight resemblance to her elegance, I will have made it!

That is what my mother means to me. Share with us what your mother means to you and share your Mother’s Day wishes to all the beautiful mothers of the world!

There is nothing like a mom! Holla back!

Crime vs. Crime

Posted by Kathy Curry | Question of the Day | Wednesday 6 May 2009 11:51 am

Question: As Christians if…

• Somebody hits your car and runs, and the person responsible is discovered, is it alright to press charges?

• Somebody breaks in your home and steals your valuables and demolishes your property and the person responsible is discovered, is it ok to press charges?

• Someone steals your identity and runs up countless charges against you and the person responsible is discovered, is it alright to press charges?

• Your business partner, who has been your friend for years, steals from you and is caught, is it alright to press charges?

• Your boss, a pillar in the eyes of the community and many within the industry, sexually harasses you and is in clear violation of company policy and your personal respectability, is it alright to press charges?

• Your spouse cheats on you, betrays you, abuses you, disrespects you and violates the covenant between the two of you, is it alright to press charges?

I realize the first three are probably a given and without hesitation you are probably saying, certainly, press charges! The first three are dealing with natural things thus make how to handle them pretty black and white, but what about the other three? These begin to delve into another side of things. Who would ever criticize a person for standing up for their rights and calling for respect for themselves if they filed a charge for someone hitting their car and leaving the scene or someone breaking in their house and stealing all their jewelry or someone stealing your identity? Why is it if we call for the same respect for ourselves in the more personal issues, which damage the very core of our being, the shades become gray and not as clear?

In the last three one might say forgiveness comes into play. Well…. I could choose to just as easily forgive the identity thief as I could the boss who fondled me inappropriately, couldn’t I? Yet, if I turn in the indentify thief, nobody would ever question me, but if I turn in the boss that so many love, I will be forever known as the person that ruined his career! Why is that!!! And how on earth do so many violators of a person’s very being get off without being held accountable for THIER actions? Why does somebody’s crime against you become lost in translation and all eyes focus on you for defending your rights, your dignity, your honor and your self respect?

Here’s how a typical conversation would go: “have you seen Mr. Right lately? No girl, didn’t you hear, that new girl they hired in that office sent him to jail! Girl, she claimed sexual harassment but have you seen how she dresses?”

Lol. Mr. Right’s actions never come into play do they? He did it but (flip the script) someone else – the victim – now becomes responsible for his demise because she defended her rights, when in reality he did it all to himself.

Quiet as it’s kept, embezzlement, even between partners/friends, is a crime, sexual harassment is a crime, spousal infidelity is a crime, any type of abuse – verbal, mental, emotion, psychological, physical – is a crime yet, if we enact the same steps to vindicate ourselves in these situations, we are forever condemned for ruining that person’s life and we are looked upon worse (most times) than the actual offender. How can a boss sexual harass an employee and all people remember is that Ms. Jane Wrong ruined Mr. John Right’s career!

Here is my profound (simple) statement of the year:
Nobody has the power to make or break me, but me. You can call the police on me and say I stole money from you but if I didn’t, nothing will happen. But if I do steal money from you and you do call the police on me and I go to jail, the only person I can blame is me!

Talk back to me on this one. Tell me if my stolen identity deserves a higher level of respect and action than the stealing of the core of my being? Can I use the same tactics to retrieve my self respect of what was morally and physically stolen from me, that I can for the material items that have been stolen from me? Remember, in both instances, I can and will forgive, but in both instances can I lawfully retrieve what has been taken from me? In all six examples a crime has been committed…

Holla back!
