What’s On Your Bucket List?

Posted by Kathy Curry | Holla Back | Tuesday 2 March 2010 11:40 am

Did you see the movie Bucket List with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson? The premise of the movie is: they make a list of all the things they want to do before they die. That list is called a Bucket List. I haven’t seen it yet but I hear the movie was a combination of comedy and slight drama with a message about how you should live your life to the fullest, how your family is important and how you should be happy in life. Of course those are all things we know, but do we actually live day to day with the intent of being happy that day and living that day to the fullest?

Today I am going share 10 things from my newly penned Bucket List! I’m very excited. When I stop and think about all the things that have been in the back of my mind but have never come to fruition, I feel somewhat defeated! And life always presents road blocks to our dreams whether it is time, money, energy, raising the children, working the job, etc., but we still gotta dream the dream, set the goal and fill our Bucket List!

I do want to veer off my beaten path and do some really “out of the box” kinds of things but what you will not see on my list is bungee jumping, skydiving or anything that could end my life within a matter of seconds. I will leave the dare devil feats to my eldest brother! I also won’t put a night with Sean Combs on my list; I think that would be kind of tacky don’t you? Lol. I’ll just share my top ten dreams, desires and goals as I dump out my Bucket List for your perusal. These are in no particular order:

1. Visit Africa.
2. Go backpacking (I have paid my money and will embark on this adventure this weekend!)
3. Write and be published! (I have three books in the works. Pray with me on their success!)
4. Sit on Oprah’s couch as her guest.
5. See a kangaroo in its natural habitat.
6. Learn to ballroom dance. (Ummm…. I know this goes against my upbringing but… it is in my bucket)
7. (Even if it is just once) Be hired and paid as an interior decorator!
8. (Even if it is just once) Be hired and paid as a motivational speaker!
9. Help build a Habitat for Humanity home.
10. Play the piano.

Ok. So my list may be a bit boring but they are all things I want to do! I read somewhere that a true Bucket List has 100 things on it. It would take me quite a while, probably days, to come up with 100 things!

It’s your turn! Please share at least a few of the things in your Bucket List! Tell us what you want to do before you die! Who knows, seeing your list might inspire me to step even farther out of the box, out of my comfort zone and do something I have never dreamed of doing! Let the sharing begin!

Holla back!

    hello everyone! Kathy I had a “by the time I’m 50″ list. So now, that I’m 51 and getting closer to the bucket, here’s my list;

    1. I want to take a voyage on the Queen Elizabeth II or the Queen Mary from New York harbor to England (or wherever it goes)

    2. Parasail

    3. Visit Hawaii

  2. Kathy says:

@Leah – Hi Leah. I like your list. They are all things I too would enjoy! The one thing I forgot to put on my list, I want to do a marathon! Walking or running!

  3. Karol Ann says:

OK this is fun. I did the Myrtle Beach Marathon event last year..it was on my list, let’s try to do a marathon together Kathy.
    Here are my things:
    1. Visit Historic places in the US…Niagra Falls, the Presidents Heads (I know it’s called Mt Rushmore but I like calling it this better), Grand Canyon, Yosemite again, the place where 4 states meet and you can stand in them all…etc…
    2. Visit all 50 states at least once..(I’ve probably been to 30 some)
    3. Get a Master’s/Doctorate degree in Psychology and get a job
    counseling
    4. Take a family cruise with ALL of us!!
    5. Go to Hawaii, on a safari in Africa, and go to the place where Julie Andrews was singing “The hills are alive with the sound of music”
    6. Establish a scholarship fund in my Mother’s name and give away ONE MILLION DOLLARS to assist college students with their books
    7. Open my own business with cake baking at the center of it
    8. Go on Oprah to honor all my favorite gospel singers and preachers
9 Establish an award show for these gospels singers I love so much for us common folks to be at and vote on to give the awards
and last but not least…probably needs to be number one since this is the one I want the most…

    10. Be married by the time I’m 50!!!!!!!! 9 months from now!!

  4. Kathy says:

@Karol Ann – Wowsers! You have alot to do! Although I write this at 4:20 am due to insomnia, surely you are awake and not sleeping! You have too much to do to be sleep! Lol. I like #1 and #2. I think maybe I’ve been to about 30 or more states too. I wish I had written down/kept a record of every place I have been. I encourage all young people to start doing this. I am going to a women’s conference next Wednesday and one of the offerings is a journaling workshop. I believe I will go. I know there is something to be said about documenting your thoughts, feelings and activities. #3. um… bachelor’s then master’s then doctorate! That is a lot of tests and papers and years of schooling! Call them as soon as they open and get enrolled today! But I am with you. I have threatened and contemplated and considered getting at least a bachelor’s in human behavior just so I can understand people’s behaviors and maybe even my own! And then I too would like to counsel. There are many near and dear to me that I know could benefit from this expertise. #4. We are about to do it or at least a portion of us. I like all of #5 – #9. I can help you with the bookkeeping for #7 but if I thought I had to do extra cooking or baking for a living or even for a hobby, child…. I’d be hurt! #10…… bow your head. Lord in the Name of Jesus….

  5. Kathy says:

@Karol Ann – …and at the women’s conference, they have a fun with beads class! I’m there. They also had a class that probably should have been in my bucket on my list: belly dancing. lol. The key word is had. It’s been canceled :o ( They also have a workshop that would help you with your #10: The Five Love Languages. That workshop stems from a book called The Five Love Languages. A coworker turned me on to the book quite sometime ago. It is an interesting read for all of us out there endeavoring a relationship with the opposite sex. They also have one, that as your sister, I KNOW you would benefit from: Beating PMS Naturally! ROTFL! I feel ya! Anyway…. I’ve digress and need to go back to sleep!

  6. Karol Ann says:

LOL!!! Thanks for the prayer..it is done , in Jesus name!!!! Def do the beads class. I just made an exquisite (is that how you spell it?) bracelet and necklace for a co workers birthday..I wanted to keep it!!!

  7. This is Kaymani Banks (the One and Absolute Only). Most of you know me as Kandace, if not all of you.

Aunt Karol Ann- doesn’t the song say “My heart is alive with the sound of music”? I had to play that song with my orchestra and I loved it.

Before I get things poppin with my Bucket List, I would just like to say that we can all do whatever we want, as long as we understand what it takes to do it, and we have enough determination to get it done:

    1. Play my violin with an orchestra for a movie soundtrack.
    2. Audition for American Idol this upcoming June.
    3. Create my own magazine that becomes as successful as Ebony, Essence, GQ, Vogue, Seventeen, etc.
    4. Buy a house with a living room whose wall is made entirely of windows. I will decorate this room in all white and brutally beat anyone who puts a stain in this room.
    5. Have all eyes on me as I descend down a gradiouse staircase at a classy extravaganza, wearing an all-gold dress. Super exquisite (Aunt Karol Ann I think you were spelling that right.)
    6. Aquire the type of reputation that lets people know how hard I have worked to acheive it. I want to be an example of what having Jesus in your life can do for you. I would like to have the type of social status that makes people stop and Take Note, because I am actually living the life that they can only dream of. I have a favorite quote: “I am the Dream, you are the Dreamer.”
    7. I have discovered it’s not what you know, it’s Whoooo you know! I would like to build up a team of people in my life who are properly educated, just as motivated as I am, have bright futures ahead of them, or have already lived their life to its fullest and are able to give me advice. Anyone who is only bringing me down, or who is not interested in helping me succeed, is getting left behind. They are getting kicked to the curb with a face full of dirt.
    8. Meet more people than I can count on a thousand hands. I would like to personally interact with people from areas all over the world.
    9. Have a TV show that follows me on all of my voyages.
    10. Get out of Virginia for 3 months straight this summer!

  8. Kathy says:

@Kaymani Banks – You are priceless and full of what it takes to get what you want! I love where you say: I want to be an example of what having Jesus in your life can do for you.

I want to ask everybody who reads kleverkathy and is reading this particular post and comments, if you have any connections and can help Kandace or any of us achieve our dreams, let’s please help one another!

Kandace, I love you Sweetie! I have absolutely no doubt, you will make us proud!

  9. Karol Ann says:

Ah…how precious Kana. I love ur bucket list and feel certain you will accomplish all of your list!!!!!

  10. Karen says:

Ok. Let me try and post my bucket list for about the 5th or 6th time. I’m not as talk-a-lot-ish about my list like my previous sisters/daughter but anyway…..here it is.

    Culinary School
    Pottery Classes
    Fly Fishing
    Swimming Lessons
    Work 3 or 4 days a week
    Travel (like Karol Boyd)
And last but not least……learn how to kill someone without getting caught……Just Kidding!!!!!!!!!! :0) Stop It!

  11. Karol Ann says:

L O L !!!!! Boo…Can I join you on that last venture!!! If we pray maybe the Lord will make a way!! Wonder if I’m kidding??????

  12. Kathy says:

@Karen@Karol Ann – Lord in the name of Jesus, I come before you on behalf of my sisters!!!!!
