BeBe and CeCe, Steve Harvey, Drew and Peyton, Jennifer Hudson and Facebook!!!

Posted by Kathy Curry | Five Random Thoughts/Questions | Monday 8 February 2010 10:58 am

Marvelous Monday Morning to you! You know me and my wandering mind! I’ve been thinking and these are the things I’m thinking about today:

1. If a song can be played on a Soap Opera during a sex scene, can that song also be called a “gospel” song? I’m on the fence with this one, and in my opinion, that is exactly where Benjamin and Priscilla Winans (BeBe and CeCe) reside, on the fence! I think playing it this way is lukewarm. I believe you can sing anything you want, this is America, but there needs to be distinction as to the purpose. I really don’t mind if BeBe and CeCe go secular. Many entertainers have recorded a combination of Christian/Gospel, Soul, Hip Hop, etc., music in their careers. No biggie. But when you claim to be gospel recording artists and your music is fit to be played in a sex scene, doesn’t that cross a line and take your music out of one category and put it in another? I am not getting paid to decide, I just have a problem with them seemingly, not wanting to take a stand on either side of the fence!

2. Is there NO ONE in the gospel arena, that lives the gospel daily, capable of hosting the BET annual Celebration of Gospel? Seriously? Steve Harvey himself talks about how surprising it is they asked him to host the show. He talks about how stunned his Kings of Comedy costars were and thought he was joking with them! He talks about how for two hours he can’t cuss! Is there no one else? I’m talking about someone who doesn’t have to put on their personal censors and deserves the honor and paycheck because they are a 365 day living example of the good news of Christ? Here me when I say, I love me some Steve Harvey! I listen to him every morning on my way to work. I even enjoy watching him on the Celebration of Gospel every year but I do get tired of the first 5 or 10 minutes being dedicated to him defending himself and justifying why he, of all people, is hosting the show! Enough of that! If BET can’t find a representative from the gospel community to host the show that would make them as much money as Steve Harvey, ok, just do it and move on! Don’t make us feel bad for wondering why a chronic and habitual curser, with a questionable lifestyle as a Christian is doing it! Don’t tell me I’m judging you when all I am doing is watching you sweat as you go overboard explaining why you are there! You’ve done it for 10 years, what’s one more! (and by the way, who was that husband and wife that sang on there this year??? Yikes!)

3. (Colts fan speaking…) Why did Peyton Manning keep handing the ball to the runner only to have him go straight into the cluster of big boys in Saints jerseys!? That play didn’t work the first time he did it, the last time he did it, or any of the times in between!!! I hate that play!!! I don’t like it if any team does it but… it did work a couple of times for the Saint didn’t it? I blame that play for our loss! It was the difference between Drew holding the trophy and Peyton holding the trophy… I’m just saying. (lol. I know nothing about football. I know there were other things that caused the fabulous Colts to walk away defeated but that plays drives me nuts!)

4. After last night’s performances, I must ask, didn’t Jennifer Hudson and Faith Hill have the right idea to lip syncing their performance at the Super Bowl?! Even the little award winning Carrie Underwood struggled with that last note, did she not!!! I love my Queen but…. And the Who?????????

5. Why on earth does Face Book keep changing their layout!!! I don’t know what I am doing anymore! My coworker told me I need to update my browser. Ok that is fixing something that is broke! In my opinion, Facebook wasn’t broke, my browser wasn’t broke and my computer wasn’t broke! Now nothing works right!!!

Roger Goodell, Can Michael Vick Come Out and Play?

Posted by Kathy Curry | News of the Day | Friday 24 July 2009 7:24 am

In today’s society of anything goes, it is a dirty shame that we are tapping our toes as we wait and wonder if they are going to let Michael Vick return to his job, career, livelihood and profession. I do not believe in stars or professional athletes getting by with crimes (dog fighting included) because they are famous and can buy their way out of situations, and he didn’t do that! He did the crime and he paid the time! He served his sentence and now he should get to hit the play button and resume his life!

I am a little unclear on whether Michael Vick and the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met Wednesday in New Jersey or are actually meeting today as scheduled. Either way, waiting is frustrating! I am not a football enthusiast per se. I do not closely follow the sport and I cannot tell you any stats on any players or talk like one of the guys, but I can tell you, no one person should have as much control and power over someone’s life/destiny as Goodell is getting over Vick’s. All I can say is Goodell had better walk the straight and narrow the rest of his days! If he slips up once and does anything, I pray one man doesn’t descend on him and decide his fate and the rest of his life based on one indiscretion. In my opinion, that is what he is doing to Vick!

I’m praying for Michael Vick! I hope he is back in place, doing his thing, entertaining millions next season. And I hope he is doing it with the team of his choice!

God’s blessings on you Michael Vick! Hang in there!

Holla back!

He’s Back!!! Michael Vick Released!

Posted by Kathy Curry | Question of the Day | Wednesday 20 May 2009 9:09 am

I don’t know about you but I am happy he is out! Here is what ESPN news had to say about Michael Vick and his early morning release.

Michael Vick left a Kansas federal prison Wednesday for home confinement in Virginia, the latest step on a journey that he hopes will lead to his return to the NFL.

Prison Bureau officials confirmed to ESPN’s Kelly Naqi that Vick was released from the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kan., around 5 a.m.
Larry Woodward, a member of Vick’s legal team, told The Associated Press that Vick is happy to be starting this part of the process.

The Daily Press of Newport News, Va., which first reported Vick’s release, said according to sources at the scene, Vick left the prison before dawn, using an alternate entrance to evade cameras and reporters who had staked out the building ahead of his expected release this week.

Vick is due to return to his Hampton, Va., home and serve the remainder of his federal sentence on house arrest. He spent the past 19 months in prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting ring.

Vick, once the NFL’s highest-paid player, is expected to take a construction job at $10 an hour while he serves the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. He will be handed a new set of rules when he begins serving three years of probation after his expected July 20 release from federal custody.

Vick will be required to report to probation within 72 hours of his return to Hampton, Va., and will be supervised out of the Norfolk probation office.

Vick’s agent said Tuesday that the quarterback “will place football on the back burner” during his immediate home confinement and that there are no meetings scheduled with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss reinstatement for the 2009 season.

“Michael’s looking forward to reacquainting himself with his family, his fiancée, Kiafa, his children and his mom,” Joel Segal, Vick’s agent, said. “When he gets home, that’s his priority, along with reinserting himself into society and being a positive influence in his community. This is going to be a special time for him, just being around family.”

Goodell has said he would wait until the end of Vick’s sentence to consider reinstatement. He has said Vick will have to persuade him and the public that he is genuinely sorry for his crime, that he has been changed by his experience and that he is committed to leading a different life.

Are you like Goodell, do you think Michael Vick should have to jump through hoops to get back the life he once knew? Here’s my thing, I could see him having to “persuade him and the public that he is genuinely sorry for his crime, that he has been changed by his experience and that he is committed to leading a different life” if he got off scot free but why does he have to do all of that and he served time, paid the price for his crime and is willing to work a $10.00 an hour job in the meantime??? At what point does the humiliation end and a second chance at life begin? Who is Goodell or any of us to demand such a thing of an entertainer? He is not President of the United States, or Mother Teresa’s counterpart, he is a sports entertainer!!!

How do you feel? Should Michael Vick be reinstated, picked up and the pause button released? After his sentence is complete, should he go back to doing what he does best and giving testosterone holders all over the world the biggest form of entertainment known to “males”? Personally, I think so! He was fighting dogs not murdering people or dealing drugs! He was wrong but he did what he was ordered to do and now should be allowed to pick his life back up and do his thang! What do you think? Holla Back!
